Calgary Tower was first announced on December 10, 1965. Calgary Tower was a joint venture between Husky Oil and Marathon Realty Company and was meant to accomplish two different tasks. The first was that Calgary Tower was to be the centerpiece for an urban renewal plan where it would attract interest and business to downtown Calgary. The second thing was that Calgary Tower was to celebrate Canada’s centennial. Construction of Calgary Tower began on February 19, 1967, after a few years of debate on how the project would move forward. 

 

There’s a lot to do at Calgary Tower in Alberta, Canada. The main attraction of course will be the various lighting events that Calgary Tower holds throughout the year.  Likewise, the observation deck allows visitors to view downtown Calgary in all of its glory, seeing the skyline and all of the major Calgary landmarks from over 100 meters in the sky. 

 

Another favorite attraction is the theater room in the tower. The theater room shows Calgary Tower’s specially made documentary that details the creation of Calgary Tower. In addition to the theater room and observation deck, Calgary Tower offers many different fine dining options. Among the many dining options are Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and the Sky360 Restaurant and Lounge. 

 

Calgary Tower also offers a multimedia guided tour of the observation deck. The tour allows you to walk around the observation deck, and with the use of your own smartphone, you can read interesting facts about the many different landmarks that exist there. If you decide against using a smartphone, carefully placed placards are located all around the Observation Deck. 

 

Calgary Tower in Alberta has different hours depending on the season. From September to May, Calgary Tower is open Monday through Friday from noon to 9:00 P.M, and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 A.M to 9:00 P.M. During the months of June to August, the tower is open Monday through Friday from noon to 9:00 P.M, and Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 A.M to 9:00 P.M. 

 

The reviews for Calgary Tower were very positive. In general, everyone who has gone has enjoyed their visit in some way. The only complaint that one visitor had was that dinner reservation fees didn’t include access to the observation deck. The same visitor also noted that the gift shop isn’t stocked very well outside of tourism season months.
